Artist's Comments

Made this in response to an HP ad where Jay Z claimed he was hip-hop's CEO.

Jay embodies none of the four elements.

if i may quote the MC One Be Lo, "Big cars, clothes, and chains, that aint hip-hop."

16x24/ oil, acryilic, block ink, stencil, and collage on canvas.

i really don't give a fuck who likes jay z, who doesn't like jay z, or whatever. Its my art, and my opinion. Once again, opinon. For all of those who've shown love, much thanks. But for those of you trying to say you'll teach me what hip hop is, shut the fuck up. Music and art have a lot to do with opinion, i don't think jay z embodies what hip hop was or should be now, that's my opinion. If you disagree, great, you too are entiteld to your opinion, so go make your own piece of award winning art to manifest that opinion instead of trying to talk shit about my painting. and once again, for all of you showing love, thanks alot.

I am a big Jay-Z fan (I know you don't care) and this piece is fantastic. I love what it is saying and how it says it. It says alot about the state of Hip Hop. Well Done.
:iconmacy-moo:
amazing. I agree, he is definatly not the CEO of hiphop.

I forgot about this one.

I wanna set it straight, I'm not talkin shit about your work. I jus assumed that since you didn't turn the comments off on this deviation that you were interested in hearing people's opinions.

Without attacking your right to your own opinion, I'd like to know, from one hip hop stan to another, just what exactly you think hip hop is supposed ti be and why jay-z in particular is so detrimental to it. Is it just the fact that he's famous or is there something else?
To me he's not as good a rapper as 3 stacks, and as good as reasonable doubt was, Illmatic was better but he's way above all the lil waynes and gucci manes out there.

i painted this when i was 16, i've actually grown to really like some of jays stuff over the last year or so (not his stuff released in the last year, his general stuff), i mean ill always be a die hard nas fan, but your right, he's making alot better music than most of the stuff out there on the radio. i have no problem with his fame, in fact i love when artisits i like get the lime light they deserve. i know alot of underground heads who hate it when thier favorite artists get attention, but when you think about it thats kinda fucked up. if you love a particular artist, you should be down with other people getting to know and love them too. so it really has nothing to do with fame. i guess it just upset me that j was moving in what i feel was the wrong direction a few years back, but the blueprint three made me second guess that. jay z was one of the first artists i listened to when i first got into hiphop, then i gradually got on some conscience upper level shit, but i mean grownin since i was 16 alot of views change and shit, and i'm still not down with jay hova bein seen as hiphops CEO but you do have some valid words yourself.

one.

I think only mainstream hip hop heads ever considered Jay z as the CEO.

I used to get caught up in that Nas vs Jay-Z thing but the fact is, both have made good music and both have done shit to make me shake my head. Like the Blueprint 3, highly disappointing album.

And as far as Nas, he can make good music but the gimmicks are gettin pretty old. I almost didn't cop the untitled album after I heard about the title dispute thing. He tried to play it up like it was all about expression and black freedom thing and all that, but I saw through it. It was the same thing as that "hip hop is dead" thing. He knew he didn't want lil suburban kids walkin around "what up, yo did you hear that new Nigger album?!!!??! That nigga Nas is the shit, yo!" lol

Like I said both are good artists, but far from the best. Their just well known. You wanna hear some real hip hop listen to MF Doom, Madlib, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, People Under The Stairs, Mos Def, Goodie Mob or Outkast. Hell listen to Eminem's very 1st album he released before he got signed. Listen to ATLiens (Outkasts' best album is one of their most obscure)if you want some true hip hop.
